Build Your Own Eco Friendly Mouse Traps

Most of the time, mice are harmless creatures that serve as more of an annoyance than a danger. However, there is the possibility that a mouse can have transmittable diseases. For that reason, it's best to eliminate them from your house as soon as you notice their presence. Over the years, traps traditionally have killed mice instantly-- a process you may consider cruel and not eco-friendly. Fortunately, you can build your own mousetraps without harming mice in the process. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Cut the neck off of a plastic bottle of medium height (like a soda or water bottle) with a pair of scissors. The hole should be big enough for a mouse to crawl through it, so aim for 1 to 2 inches in diameter.

2. Cut off the bottom of the water bottle so there are two holes--one at the top and one at the bottom of the bottle.

3. Tape your pennies together and then tape them to the edge of the bottle where you cut the neck off.

4. Place some bait at the end of the bottle (by the neck). You can use anything that mice are attracted to, such as cheese or peanut butter.

5. Put your baited bottle on the counter with the baited end (this will also be the side with the coins that act as weights) sticking off slightly.

6. Place a tall, empty trash can directly under the opening of your bottle. When the mouse is tempted by the bait, it will drop a short distance into the trash can. Once this happens, take the mouse outside, far from your home, and release it.
