Start A Carrepair Business

You see car-repair businesses everywhere you go, yet people lament over the need for a good mechanic on a regular basis. With a little work and dedication, you could learn to be that good mechanic and gobble up local business. If you want to start a car-repair business, putting in the legwork to become desirable to customers can have big dividends in the future.

Instructions

1. Determine your vision for the car-repair business. You may decide to work on only foreign cars that require special licensing. Or, you may want to focus on just the basics, such as oil changes, batteries and belts. Decide what you want your business to offer customers when you open the doors.

2. Identify areas where you can increase your knowledge. Should you need special licensing to work on a specific make of car, such as Volvo or BMW, then you need to research the requirements. You may need to take courses, or you may opt to look for mechanics who already have this certification.

3. Find a location for the business. Check with your local zoning office. Car repair businesses are one of those companies that cannot open in all locations. Many people do not want to be near this type of business, because they fear the appearance, and you need to know the limits of location before you make further plans.

4. Outline the way you see the company working. Consider coming up with policies that will differentiate you from competitors. Offer tire changes in a certain time or give a percentage off, for instance. Have odd hours or customer pick-up. Determine how your company will work and what will make it viable in an industry that already boasts a couple of businesses in your area.

5. Hire a research firm. This firm should be able to use your outline and your ideas to survey the local community. You may find some ideas you have are not likely to work while others would make people come to your shop over others already in existence.

6. Start working on cars in your spare time. Chances are that you already enjoy car repair if you are considering this business but begin now to do a little work here and there to begin to build word of mouth.
