Use Toothpaste To Clean Scratches On A Dvd

When the climax moment in the movie comes and your DVD skips due to scratches, it's time to do something about this problem. There are many high-profile products on the market that claim to remove scratches from your DVDs and improve the play quality, but before you spend money, try a home remedy using a common household item. A popular method of cleaning scratches and dirt off DVDs and other discs is with toothpaste.

Instructions

1. Grab a tube of toothpaste. You can use a name-brand gel or regular paste, but gel toothpaste is preferable because it isn't as pasty, thick and difficult to remove as regular white paste. Squeeze the paste generously over the playing side of your DVD disc, and work the paste into the grooves of the disc with your fingers until it is completely covered. The toothpaste acts as a cleanser and polisher on the disc.

2. Allow the disc to sit for about 5 minutes with the toothpaste on top (put the disc somewhere that is out of the reach of curious animals and children).

3. Run the disc under warm to hot water while smoothing the toothpaste over the surface with your thumbs. Rinse the toothpaste completely off the disc. Be sure there are no traces left since this could damage your player.

4. Dry the DVD with a soft cotton cloth, being careful not to scratch the delicate surface of the disc. If you use a rough cloth at the end of this process, you could end up causing more damage than what was present before. The disc should be clean and shining, and the number of scratches should be greatly reduced.

5. Test the disc in your DVD player to see if the play quality has improved. Repeat this process once more if necessary.
