Paint A Deck Floor

Although you may only desire to paint the deck floor, it's recommended that you paint the underside of the deck, as well.

When deck floors are first installed they can add a remarkable amount of beauty to the exterior of a home. However, if it isn't appropriately treated, a deck can warp and rot under the exposure of humidity and harsh weather conditions. In addition, if a deck floor is left unfinished, it can become infested with mold, fungi, and mildew. Fortunately, you can increase the life span of your deck by applying a coat of paint. However, before you get started, you need to know the proper preparation steps required to ensure a long-lasting finish. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Clean the deck floor using a pressure washer. Start the washer on a low setting and increase pressure slowly, being careful not to damage the surface. Allow the surface to dry before continuing.

2. Prepare the deck floor by applying a coat of latex primer. Brush on the primer using a 4-inch latex paintbrush. Brush along with the grain and not against it.

3. Allow the deck floor to dry for two full hours, and then apply latex deck paint in the same manner as you did the primer. Do not walk on the deck floor for at least four hours.
