Troubleshoot An Rca Flat Screen Tv

Flat-screen TVs continue to grow in popularity as many viewers prefer the sound and picture quality. As anyone who has purchased one knows, the performance comes at a relatively hefty price tag. The best way of protecting this investment is to learn fix common problems the TV might encounter, like picture degradation, audio distortion or even a failure to power on. Resolving these problems without having to consult any outside assistance can save you lots of time and money in the long run.

Instructions

1. Secure the AC power cable connection from the TV to the electrical source if the TV does not power on. Some models of RCA flat screens are built so that the AC power cable comes loose from the back of the TV as well as from the electrical source, so make sure the power cable has not come loose from the TV. You can also temporarily test a surge protector that you think might be malfunctioning by bypassing it and plugging the TV directly into a wall outlet. If there is still no power to the TV when plugged into multiple electrical sources, the TV's power cable might need to be replaced or the TV itself might need to be serviced.

2. Check all audio and video connection cables that attach the different components of your home-entertainment center to the flat-screen TV to address any picture-quality problems. Loose, malfunctioning or incorrectly plugged connection cables can cause myriad picture and audio distortions on the screen. Cables that you think might be malfunctioning can be temporarily swapped with another pair for testing purposes. Any peripheral devices like DVD players, cable boxes or game systems that continue to have picture problems with multiple connection cables will likely need to be replaced. If the TV experiences the same problems with multiple peripheral devices and connection cables, the TV's picture components will need to be examined and serviced.

3. Check audio settings if the TV is missing audio on one or more cable channels. First, deselect the mute using either the "Mute" or "Volume Up" buttons on the remote. If there is still no audio, navigate to the TV's audio options in the main menu and make sure MTS and SAP are disabled. If these options are enabled while watching a channel that does not support these options, you will most likely hear intermittent or no audio at all. If audio does not return after you verify that the TV is not muted and MTS/SAP is deactivated, report the issue to your cable provider or have the TV's audio components serviced.
