This project will be a lot of fun and the finished result will make your new fixed up mobile home a great source of pride and accomplishment which will furnish you with years of comfortable and enjoyable housing. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Inspect the entire ceiling for evidence of water leaks, including the ceilings in closets and storage areas. Pay close attention around vents and sky lights. If water stains are evident, the roof needs closer inspection and an application of roof coating.

2. Gain access to the roof from a sturdy ladder. When walking on a mobile home roof, step only on the ribs that support the roof. Re-attach any loose areas of roofing with roof cement. Replace or re-attach flashing around sky lights. Apply caulking to these areas thoroughly. Check any guttering and re-attach any loose areas

3. Apply roof coating following the directions on the container. Choose a warm dry day; this allows the roof coating to spread easily. Pay close attention to the seams and edges

4. Check around all the windows and doors on the exterior of the home and apply caulking to seal out air leaks, water and insects

5. Have a licensed electrician check the home's wiring and breaker panel boxes to insure safety and that the wiring is adequate for your needs.

6. Cut away any soft or rotted sections of the flooring and replace with flooring material that is the same thickness as the existing floor. Check the floor joist for any rot or water damage and replace before installing the new sections of flooring. Pay special attention to the flooring in bath rooms, kitchens and along the exterior walls, particularly if there is any evidence of water leaks around windows.

7. Wash all ceilings and walls. Re-paint the ceilings and walls (if they were painted before). Apply a paneling restoring product such as Liquid Gold to paneled walls. Some mobile home ceilings are sprayed with a coating to give a textured appearance (popcorn ceilings), which can be damaged by aggressive cleaning. This type of coating is difficult to remove and is usually done by a contractor.

8. Shampoo or remove and replace carpeting. Linoleum or tile floors that are not cracked or damaged can be thoroughly cleaned and finished with a sealing product or floor wax. Damaged linoleum or tile floors that show excessive wear or cracks and tears can be removed and replaced.
