Remove Fine Scratches On Optical Lenses

Glasses can develop fine scratches over time.

Eyeglasses can be quite expensive, so it's important to protect your investment. Unfortunately, even with proper care, eyeglasses can still get damaged. Although most lenses come with a built-in scratch-resistant coating, fine scratches may still occur. Thankfully, there are easy techniques to help you remove them at home. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Smear a pea-sized amount of toothpaste onto the scratch then buff it into the surface of the lens using a microfiber cloth. Be sure to use plain, non-whitening toothpaste. Rinse after buffing and repeat until the scratch has been diminished.

2. Spray furniture polish onto both sides of the lens. Polish the area using small, circular motions then rinse once the scratch is visibly improved.

3. Apply metal polish to both sides of the lens. Rub the polish into the scratch using a gentle, polishing motion. Rinse the polish off completely once complete.

4. Smear a pea-sized amount of carnauba wax onto the optical lens. Press the wax into the fine scratches to fill the grooves and even out the surface of the lens. Buff the surface to a smooth, shiny finish using a clean microfiber cloth.
