Admiral refrigerators are manufactured by Maytag. Even the best refrigerator can go wrong sometimes, but the most common problems are easily fixed. Make sure you know the status of your warranty before you attempt any home repair. Unauthorized repairs invalidate most warranties, so contact a repair center if you are in any doubt. If your warranty has expired, you can probably do most necessary repairs yourself. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
Not Running/Not Cooling
1. Make sure the refrigerator is plugged in, and that the fuse/circuit breaker is operational. The refrigerator may also be in automatic defrost mode--wait about 20 minutes to see if it kicks back on. If not, plug something else into the outlet to be sure the outlet is getting power.
2. Locate the compressor on the back of the fridge. If it's running but the fridge isn't cooling, there may be serious internal problems that are best left to a professional. If it isn't running, unplug the machine and remove the service panel. Inspect all wiring, replacing any that is burned or broken.
3. Remove the front kick plate and vacuum the condenser coils. Replace the kick plate.
4. Look inside the freezer for ice buildup. If there's ice on the walls, there's ice on the evaporator coils. Leave the doors open to allow it to defrost for 24 hours. If it cools normally afterward, replace the defrost assembly. If it still doesn't cool, either your coolant levels are low or you need a new compressor.
Leaks
5. Open the refrigerator doors and look for condensation on the walls. Frequent or prolonged door opening can cause moisture buildup that can drip and leak out of the doors. Replace the door seals, and be mindful of how long the doors are left open.
6. Remove the kick plate from the bottom front, and slide the drip pan out. Empty it and inspect it for holes or cracks. Replace it if worn.
7. Unplug the fridge and remove the service panel. Inspect the water inlet hose for leaks, and replace it if damaged. Check the hose's attachment to the valve on the refrigerator as well as the house's water supply, and replace either valve if there's a loose fit.
8. Inspect the drain line for clogs. Remove it from both ends, and run water through it with a garden hose. If there is an obstruction, a strong spray may clear it. If not, replace the hose. Also check the hose's attachment to the drain valve, replacing the valve if it's loose.
Noisy
9. Remove the front kick plate and make sure the drip pan is stable. If it wiggles or vibrates, tape it into place. Locate the defrost timer, toward the right front area. If the noise is coming from there, replace the timer.
10. Open the freezer and manually push the door latch. If the noise gets louder, replace the fan motor on the back wall.
11. Listen to the compressor on the back panel of the fridge. If the noise is coming from there, replace the compressor. If the noise seems to be coming from a little to the left of the compressor, unplug the machine and remove the plate over the condenser fan. Vacuum the fan, or replace it if it appears cracked, bent or damaged in any way.
