Get A Community Development Block Grant For Home Improvements

Eligible urban communities use the community development block grant to provide housing to people of low to moderate income. To qualify, you must meet certain requirements as a community, pass the grant money on and meet particular restrictions. Communities frequently use the grant to improve personal homes or community housing, such as sewer and water line replacement or structural improvements.


Instructions


Pre Submission


1. Determine if your community is eligible. The city must be inside a metropolitan area or an urban county of at least 200,000 people or a city over 50,000 in a metropolitan area.


2. Pick persons of low to moderate incomes, defined as a the Section 8 low income limit, set by HUD. This person agrees that 70% of the money is used for housing expenses that will benefit them. They pick a one, two or three year period to make the improvements.


3. Submit a written proposal with your plan of action. Keep citizens informed by following a citizen participation plan, informing citizens of how much money is eligible and what the plan is to use the money.


4. Incorporate citizens feedback into your final proposal and plan of action.

5. Prepare a consolidated plan that includes the pre-submission information, an action plan for every year and any certification that may be necessary.


6. Submit the paperwork to HUD, within the deadline set.


7. Expect approval comes from the Secretary of HUD within 45 days of submission.
