Clean the scratches off of your PlayStation 2 game discs.
All hope is not lost when your favorite PlayStation 2 game starts skipping or freezing when you are playing. Your game disc may be scratched, but it can likely be fixed at home using household cleaners. While you cannot fix deep scratches that are caused by actually scraping the disc, most surface scratches can be wiped clean off your PS2 game. Try to remove scratches at home before heading out to replace your disc. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
Toothpaste Method
1. Squeeze a teaspoonful of non-gel, baking soda toothpaste onto a lint-free cloth. Make sure the cloth is soft and not a standard dish towel.
2. Turn on your faucet and let the water run until it is warm to the touch without being hot.
3. Place the cloth under the faucet so the water just hits the toothpaste.
4. Grip your PlayStation 2 disc in your off hand with the scratched side facing up. Place the cloth on the center of the disc.
5. Wipe down from the center of the game to the edge, spreading the toothpaste in a straight line. Repeat the line three times. Remove the cloth.
6. Rotate the game disc slightly in your hand. Hold the cloth and wipe down from the center to the edge again. Continue rotating the disc and wiping straight down each time.
7. Complete five rotations around the disc. Remove the cloth.
8. Dampen a clean lint-free cloth. Wipe the toothpaste from the game disc using the same method as before, straight lines from the center to the edge of the game disc. Continue until all toothpaste is off the game disc.
9. Wipe the game disc with a dry cloth.
Brasso Method
10. Squirt three to five drops of Brasso onto a dry lint-free cloth.
11. Place the cloth in the center of the scratched side of your PlayStation 2 game.
12. Wipe the cloth down in a straight line from the center to the edge of your game disc. Wipe five to seven times over each scratch.
13. Remove excess Brasso with a dry lint-free cloth. Wipe in a straight line over the Brasso to remove it.
14. Check the game disc for remaining scratches. Repeat until the scratches have been removed.
