Federal Emergency Management Agency Individual Assistance Program
Offering grants up to $26,000, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, Individual Assistance program helps residents of Mississippi with disaster-related housing expenses. The FEMA housing grant can cover repairing a damaged home, purchasing a replacement home or constructing a new home. In order to qualify for the grant, an applicant must live in an area that has been declared a disaster by the president. There are additional qualifications a person must meet to apply for the grant program. An application for assistance can be completed online or by contacting FEMA directly.

Mississippi Homeowner Assistance Grant Program
The Mississippi Homeowner Assistance Grant Program is designed to help residents whose homes were damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Families who lived in a single-family residence, manufactured home or an owner-occupied duplex at the time of the hurricane qualify for the program. The program is available in phases. Home of Your Own Project
The Home of Your Own Project provides up to $15,000 in grants to individuals with disabilities. To qualify, an applicant must have a secured home loan with a fixed interest rate and fall within certain income requirements. The grant can be used to purchase an existing home or to construct a new home. The grant can also be used towards retrofitting a home. A home must be certified as acceptable according to the guidelines set forth by the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Housing Assistance for Teachers Program
The Housing Assistance for Teachers Program provides a grant to teachers who need assistance with covering the down payment or closing costs on a home. Teachers who qualify for the program are required to teach in a rural district that has a critical need for teachers. The grant covers up to $6,000 in some cases.
