Make your own window screen frames to keep out bugs and other small creatures.
Window screens can help keep out unwanted visitors, especially those of the "multi-legged" variety. These screens are held in place on top of a window screen frame. The frame is then fastened to your window. Making window screen frames isn't difficult, and it's probably something that every do-it-yourselfer will have to face at one point or another. Measuring your window opening properly is the key to making a good window screen frame. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Measure the frame where you'll be installing the window screen. You'll need to measure both the height and the width. Write these measurements down.
2. Subtract the corner bracket dimensions from your measurements to determine the width you need to cut. For example, many corner brackets are 1/2 inch in size. You'll be using two corner brackets on each side. So if the width of your window is 24 inches, you need to cut your width piece to 23 inches. Mark these measurements on your top, bottom, right and left side pieces.
3. Saw off your frames to the appropriate length. Sand down any rough edges with a file.
4. Insert the two corner pieces into the bottom frame piece.
5. Slide the two mounting brackets into either end of the top piece, then attach the remaining two corner pieces to each end.
6. Connect the right and left sides to the top piece by the corners. Attach the bottom piece.
