More Insulation To A Mobile Home Floor

Many residents enjoy the economies a mobile home affords. However, mobile home are not with out their problems. Because they usually have high floors with a crawl space below, cold air can flow not just around the sides of the house, but underneath as well. In turn, this compromises heating efficiency. In addition to the insulation under the floors, add insulation to the walls of the crawl space. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove the mobile home skirting panels. Push the panel up to slide it out of the track.

2. Clean the backside of the panels thoroughly, using warm water, dish soap and a scrub brush. Rinse and allow the panels to dry.

3. Measure the panels, using a tape measure.

4. Cut square sections of extruded polystyrene insulation board to fit each panel. Polystyrene insulation is a lightweight, rigid foam insulation that comes in large panels that can be cut down to size. Polystyrene can be cut with a utility knife, a hand or jigsaw or a cutting wire. Make the boards 1 inch smaller in each direction than the panels to leave space for inserting the panels back into the tracks.

5. Apply a zig-zagging bead of foam board adhesive to one side of each foam board section. Foam board adhesive comes in caulk tubes and are extruded with a caulk gun.

6. Adhere the foam board sections to the backs of the panels. Press down all over to ensure the foam board is secure and there are no gaps. Allow the adhesive to cure for 24 hours.

7. Slide each panel back into place.
