Repair A Bose Dvd

While Bose is primarily known for making high-quality speakers, they also offer a number of other home theatre devices such as DVD and Blu-Ray players. These media players offer specialized internal hardware to facilitate using them with other Bose equipment, allowing users to have a complete home-theatre experience. Occasionally a Bose DVD player will begin to malfunction, no longer being able to read any inserted discs. This stems from a problem with the lens which is used to read and decode information from the DVD discs. Unfortunately, due to the construction of Bose DVD players, it will take a little bit of work to fix.

Instructions

1. Power off your Bose DVD player and unplug it from the power and A/V cables leading to your television.

2. Flip the DVD player upside down, and remove the six screws located around the perimeter of the underside.

3. Gently pull the plastic side covers off of the left and right side of the unit. Once these covers are removed, you will be able to pull off the top cover of the unit as well.

4. Plug the unit back into the power socket and press the "Eject" button. Once the tray is ejected, remove the cover on the outside of the tray. Then close the tray and unplug the unit.

5. Locate the large light-blue cable cluster leading into the back of the DVD drive and disconnect it.

6. Remove the DVD drive from the unit entirely. Then flip the drive unit upside down. Locate the four screws in the plate connected to the bottom of the DVD drive and unscrew them.

7. Remove the head of the DVD drive, then remove the four screws from the exposed bottom of the drive itself.

8. Locate the lens in the middle of the drive. It is a small glass circle.

9. Apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol to the end of a cotton swab, then carefully wipe the lens clean using the swab. Be certain that alcohol does not drip into the unit. After the lens has been swabbed, you'll need to put the unit back together. Start by putting the DVD drive back together, then screw the plate back to the bottom of the drive. Carefully insert the blue cable cluster back into the drive, then fit the drive back into place. Return the top cover, then the side covers. Once the covers are back in place, you can screw the six screws from the bottom of the unit back into place. Your Bose DVD player should now function properly.
