Repair Mobile Home Vinyl Doors

Mobile home doors can be replaced rather than repaired.

Mobile homes use a vinyl door that is a sandwich of vinyl and foam. If the door cracks or is damaged, a repair kit will mend the door. You will find these kits in hardware stores or home improvement stores and they will include a range of materials to repair your door including cleaner, adhesive and patches. The repair will be visible, however it will seal the crack. It will take about 30 minutes to repair a small crack, larger cracks will take up to an hour or more. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove the existing door from the hinges by removing the screws that hold the door to the hinge. Use a power screw driver or hand held screwdriver. Then place the door on a table or saw horses to work easily on it.

2. Clean the area that is damaged using a sponge and soap thoroughly and then wipe it clean with a soft, microfiber towel. If your vinyl repair kit includes a cleaning agent, use this as prescribed by your repair kit instructions. Most include a synthetic cleaner that is applied with a sponge. Wipe the area dry with a towel after application.

3. Apply the adhesive gel to the edges of the damaged area. Fit the two pieces of damaged door panel together until the adhesive takes hold. Be careful not to place your hands against the adhesive gel during this step.

4. Allow the gel to dry and cure overnight or as instructed by the manufacturer. Once dry, inspect the repair to ensure the two panels have adhered together. If not, remove the adhesive with a scrub pad and repeat steps 1 through 3.
