Change The Bathtub Faucet In A Mobile Home

Mobile home bathtub faucets are a bit different than standard house faucets. Many mobile home faucets are one-piece units similar to a standard sink faucet. Although the faucet might look as if it is metal, it is most likely plastic. The walls of mobile homes are thin, and faucets are made of plastic due to the lightweight. Changing the bathtub faucet in a mobile home requires accessing the plumbing inside the wall. Replacement bathtub faucets for mobile homes are available at home improvement centers and some hardware stores. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Find the access panel to the tub plumbing. The access panel is in the next room adjacent to the faucet. In some single-wide mobile homes, the access panel is on the rear wall of the laundry nook. Remove the access panel from the wall. The access panel often has wing nuts that you turn until the wings are no longer over the access panel.

2. Turn the water supply valve clockwise with your hand. Go to the tub and turn on both the hot and cold water handles to release any residual water from the line.

3. Go back to the plumbing inside the wall. Turn the connecting nuts securing the lines to the back of the faucet counterclockwise with your fingers. These are all plastic lines and nuts requiring no tools.

4. Remove the nuts securing the faucet to the wall with your fingers. There is often a nut on the cold water faucet stem and one on the hot water faucet stem. Go back to the tub and pull the old faucet away from the wall.

5. Insert the threaded faucet stems of the new mobile home bath tub faucet into the wall until the back of the faucet body is flush against the tub wall. Ask a friend to hold the faucet in place while you secure it with the retaining nuts.

6. Thread the two securing nuts over the faucet stem threads until they meet the wall. Tighten each nut evenly with your hands. Thread the water line connecting nuts to the faucet until they are hand tight. Plastic threads do not require plumber's tape.

7. Turn on the water supply for the hot and cold water slowly. Watch for leaks at the connection points. Tighten the nuts more by hand if necessary. Replace the access panel door and secure it with the wing nuts.
