Replace A Dryer Drive Belt On An Admiral Dryer

Admiral dryers are manufactured by Whirlpool and sold exclusively at Home Depot. Since the dryers are manufactured by Whirlpool, they use the exact same cabinets and construction. The drive belt in an Admiral dryer connects the drum to the motor. As the pulley on the motor rotates, the belt causes the drum to spin and tumble your clothes, helping them dry. Over time, this rubber belt can wear down, crack and break. Once the belt breaks, it must be replaced in order for your dryer to work properly. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Unplug the dryer from the electrical outlet. Slide the dryer out from the wall and disconnect the dryer vent from the back of the dryer.

2. Slide a putty knife between the top panel and front panel on the left side. Use the knife to pry the top panel up and disengage the spring clip holding the top panel in place. Repeat the process on the right side. Lift the top panel up and rotate it toward the back of the dryer.

3. Remove the screws along the inside edge of the front panel. Pull the top of the front panel toward you and lift it up to disengage the lower retaining clips. Slide the panel off to the side of the dryer. Removing the panel reveals the drum and blower housing in the lower right corner. Make a note of the two openings on each side of the dryer below the drum.

4. Slide your left hand through the left side opening. Press in on the idler arm to release the tension on the belt. Slide your right hand through the right side opening and slide the belt off of the motor pulley. Slide the belt off of the drum.

5. Slide a new belt over the drum, with the ribbed side facing down. Use your right hand to loop the belt around the motor pulley. Use your left hand to run the belt over the idler pulley to tighten the belt. Spin the drum a couple of times to center the belt.

6. Replace the front and top panels. Reconnect the dryer vent and plug the dryer back into the electrical outlet.
