Repair Basement Concrete Cracks

Concrete Cracking

Do you have cracking in the concrete in your basement? Learn fill and seal basement concrete cracking. Follow these easy steps to get one of those things off your list that may have been worrying you for a long time.

Instructions

1. Use a screwdriver to pry out any debris that is lodged in the cracks. Then, use an air compressor to blow out and thoroughly clean the cracks.

2. Apply a pre-caulking spray generously over all of the cracking. Make sure to get it at least an inch around any and all cracking.

3. Completely fill in the cracking with a standard cement caulking using a metal spreader. An effective way to do this is to begin with a large portion of caulking at the top of the cracking and spread it down.

4. Scrape off as much excess caulking as possible with the metal spreader. Try to make the transition from the concrete to the caulking as smooth as possible.

5. Let the caulking dry for around an hour. Do not continue until the caulking is close to the same color as the concrete.

6. Take a pad or sheet of heavy grade sandpaper and, with high pressure, sand the caulking down to the level of the concrete. This may take some time since the caulking will have expanded while drying.

7. Coat the entire cracked surface with a concrete sealant. Spread the sealant thinly and evenly. You may want to spread on more than one coat.
