Bid On Remodeling Homes

You have to know every step of the remodeling process before you place a bid.

Experienced remodeling professionals will eventually run into a situation on a job site where a client invites them to bid on an upcoming project. This faith in your skills is flattering. But one skill you may not have learned on a ladder is bidding. Placing remodeling bids means knowing every little step in the remodeling process from how many screws you will need to how much caulk you'll need for the seams and everything in between. Once you know the details, you are ready to start bidding. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Meet with the client to discuss the project specs. Take measurements of everything and record them for future reference.

2. Draw up three different remodeling plans to fit the project specs. Draft a materials list for each project plan.

3. Contact three different suppliers and obtain prices for each of your materials lists giving you nine totals (one for each list from each supplier). Choose the supplier who can provide the overall lowest price.

4. Multiply each of the winning supplier's prices by 1-1/2 to find labor costs for each of your project ideas. Add each labor cost to the materials list it goes with and put the totals onto their own separate bid sheets.

5. Submit your three ideas to the client along with the total price of each to give them a choice of style and price. Submit only one of the ideas if multiple submissions are disallowed by the client.
