Determine If Your Teaching License Is Still Valid

Verifying your teaching license status may be a few clicks away.

When it comes to state certifications, the differences in each state's availability of electronic data comes in 50 different varieties. What each state does have, however, is its own Department of Education. Some states keep certifications and licensing under different entities other than the Department of Education. These entities could be labeled anything from "Professional Standards Commission" (Georgia) to "State Board for Educator Certification" (Texas). Many states simply have a tool on their Department of Education website that enables a user to search for the status of educator certifications.

Instructions

1. Log on to your state's Department of Education website. Most government websites have search fields where you can enter search strings such as "license verification" or "teacher certification lookup." This may give you the direct link to a database where you can check on the status of your license.

2. Conduct a search on Google pertaining to your state's certification database. For example, a Google search for "Florida teacher certification lookup" results in the first entry directing right to the page for conducting a search.

3. Contact your Department of Education by phone. The vast majority of government agencies have a main switchboard number advertised on their website. Simply calling this number and asking who you would need to speak to in order to verify your teaching license status could get you the answers you want.
