How Important Is The Vapor Barrier Under A Mobile Home Floor

How Important Is the Vapor Barrier Under a Mobile Home Floor?

Vapor barriers are important despite what climate you are living in. Whether you live in a damp climate or a cool climate, the addition of these barriers can save you money on your energy bill as well as future repair costs. For mobile homes, the case for installing a vapor barrier is just as important. Does this Spark an idea?

Moisture Barrier

By stopping the moisture from developing directly on the floor board of your mobile home you are averting rot. This rot is slow, but over time can wear through a floor and become a hazard. Sub-floors in mobile homes tend to be thinner than in foundation homes and are more susceptible to this rot. The vapor barrier will also help eliminate dangerous mold in the house caused by the moisture build-up.

Weather Barrier

Vapor barriers can also help insulate a house. Although they are thin, they can stop cool winds from blowing through the floorboards and cooling the mobile home. Since you have to ventilate the underside of a mobile home, there will be openings for winds to blow under the trailer. This is an added protection against these winds.

Insect Barrier

The vapor barrier will also reduce the prospect of insect infestation. Subterranean termites are attracted to wood and mobile homes provide this in the floor boards. What these insects will do is build a tunnel along the side of the trailer skirt and access the wood. This is even more likely if the wood is exposed and moist.
