Fix A Leaky Roof Cheaply

If a roof leaks too long, serious wood damage will occur. The moisture will rot the wood on the roof, and the beams supporting it. It will damage the walls inside the home, the ceilings and floors. If your roof is leaking, you need to repair it quickly. If you are tight on money, there is one really cheap but effective way to do it. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Gather your supplies. Use a ladder to bring them up onto the roof. Carefully inspect the roof before placing your full weight onto it. If the leak has been there awhile, then chances are the wood is rotten and you could fall through. Go to the spot of the roof that is leaking. Identify the exact area where water is passing through.

2. Use a utility knife to slice off the end tip of the tube of Black Jack roof cement. Make the slice at an angle, 1/4 inch from the tip. Put the tube of roof cement into the caulk gun. Squeeze the trigger until the cement is visible and about to ooze out. The cement is black and plastic based. Do not allow it to get onto your fingers or clothing.

3. Use the hammer to pound in any nails that are sticking up in the damaged area. When you pound the nails in you can then fill the holes in and stop the water from leaking in where the nails are. Make sure to get every nail that sticks up, even the ones that may be covered by shingles.

4. Place the tip of the tube of caulk directly above the most noticeable part of the leak. Squeeze the trigger repeatedly until the roof cement is freely coming out. Fill in the viable cracks, tears or holes. Use a generous amount, allowing the roof cement to completely fill in the area, regardless of how much it takes. When there is an ample amount of roof cement applied, stop squeezing the trigger and use the tip of the tube of caulk to smooth the cement into the damaged area evenly.

5. Cover all surrounding cracks, seams, holes and tears with the roof cement and smooth.
