Set A Craftsman Garage Door Remote

Garage door on a residence.

Remote garage door openers are a modern convenience that allows quick access to your garage without fumbling with a keypad code. Remotes are programmed with a code for security, and while Craftsman garage door openers are factory preset to recognize the remote supplied with the opener unit, subsequent remotes require programming the remote code into the opener mechanism. Craftsman garage door openers are equipped with a "learn" button that allows the user to quickly program the opener to recognize additional remotes. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove the cover on the garage door opener by using the Phillips screwdriver to remove the two screws located on each side of the cover.

2. Locate the motor on the top face of the opener behind the pulley chain. The programming button, or "learn" button, is in the center of the top face of the motor, next to an LED light. Verify that the LED light next to the button is lit, and depress the programming button once.

3. Press the button on the remote that you wish to program within 30 seconds of depressing the programming button on the opener. The LED light will flash, indicating successful programming.

4. Repeat the depression of the programming button followed by the depression of the remote button to program additional remotes to the same garage door. Craftsman garage door openers allow you to program multiple remote codes into one opener without the risk of overwriting existing remote codes.

5. Snap the opener cover back into position, and use the Phillips screwdriver to replace the previously removed screws, securing the cover in place.

6. Press the button on the Craftsman remote transmitter to verify that the door operates properly.
