Trampolines provide great exercise for every member of the family, but to keep your trampoline working like new you must clean and maintain it. The cleaning process is not difficult if you follow some common-sense cleaning techniques. Does this Spark an idea?
Clean Around the Springs
Before cleaning the trampoline mat itself, it is important to look at the springs. Keeping them free of leaves, dirt or other debris is critical. If leaves and other items are allowed to accumulate around the springs, they could rust, weakening them and putting additional stress on the other springs or trampoline frame. For this reason, rusty springs should be replaced.
Select the right hose
After any accumulated debris has been removed from the springs, begin cleaning the mat. Sweep the mat to clear debris and then pre-soak it with a garden hose.
Using a pressure washer can reduce the time needed to clean the trampoline mat. If using a pressure washer, it is a good idea to clean the frame and the springs as well as the trampoline mat. While a garden hose can be used to clean the springs and the frame, a high-pressure hose nozzle produces the best results.
If there is a significant buildup of dirt and debris on either the mat or the frame (such as after a long winter), it may be necessary to use a pressure washer instead of a hose, even if you need to rent one.
Create the right cleaning solvent
Use a solution of soapy water to remove stubborn stains and tough dirt.
Pine-based cleaners work very well for mats. However, general-purpose household cleaners can be a good alternative. Mix two parts water and one part cleaning solution for general cleaning needs. For heavy stains or stuck on debris, use a one-to-one ratio.
Dry the Trampoline Mat
Thoroughly rinse the soapy solution off the mat and let dry. Use towels or chamois cloths to dry the metal parts of the trampoline. After the frame has been dried, remove as much water as possible from the mat and allow it to dry in the sun. Water will drain through the mat with time, but toweling the excess moisture off the mat will reduce drying time. Washing your trampoline when the sun is at its highest point will reduce the amount of time it takes to dry.
