Repair the Enamel on a Stove
Having an enamel stove top has benefits and drawbacks. On one hand, it is great because it cleans easily and typically does not stain. On the other hand, a chip or crack can occur if you drop something heavy on it. If you need repair work done to the stove top enamel, there's no need to stress. It is a very simple task with simple tools, but it does require a good amount of patience. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Clean the surface of the enamel stove top. You do not need to clean the entire top, simply the area where you will be making the repair. Combine hot water and dish detergent in your bowl, and stir with your hands. Dip your cloth in and wipe down the stove top surface until all dirt and grime are removed. A wire brush can be used to remove any visible rust.
2. Sandpaper the area of repair. When you rough up the enamel surface, you create a possible friction plain for the coatings to stick to.
3. Squeeze a small amount, about 2 inches worth, of filler paste and less than 1 inch of hardener together into a container.
4. Mix with the wooden spatula provided, and then apply a thick (but not too thick) coating on top of the chipped or cracked enamel.
5. Wait as long as needed for the mixture to dry and harden on the stove's surface.
6. Sandpaper over the mixture until it blends in well. You want it to be level with the rest of the stove top, and you want it to be smooth.
7. Cordon off the section you are working on with painter's tape. Use a few extra pieces to make thick edges so that your spray does not hit the rest of the surface.
8. Spray the enamel finish on the area and allow it to dry.
