Repair Home Vinyl

Immediately patch holes in your home's vinyl siding.

Vinyl siding is favored by many homeowners for its durability and affordability and because it is easy to maintain and keep clean. Vinyl siding is not impervious to damage, however, and accidents can create punctures, holes or breaks. You can repair the siding on your home easily by creating a patch out of a spare piece of siding. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Contact a siding dealer about obtaining a matching piece if you do not have spare siding. Home improvement stores may also sell siding patches, eliminating the need to cut your own.

2. Cut a section off the piece of siding that is at least 6 inches wider than the width of the hole, using a circular saw with a vinyl cutting saw blade.

3. Cut off the nailing strip from the top of the section using the circular saw.

4. Wash the area being patched thoroughly with warm water and dish soap to ensure that new dirt or grime will not interfere with adhesion of the patch. Try not to let water get into the hole. Allow the surface to dry.

5. Apply polyurethane construction adhesive to the back of the patch. Polyurethane construction adhesive comes in caulk tubes and is extruded using a caulk gun.

6. Position the patch over the hole and stick the top edge, where you cut off the nailing strip, up under the lip of the piece of siding above. This will ensure that no water runoff gets behind the top edge of the patch. Press down firmly and quickly wipe down any glue that squeezes out with a damp rag. Avoid letting the glue come into contact with your skin.
