Ebooks allow you to carry thousands of books in one compact electronic tablet.
An eBook reader allows the user to download and view books, magazines and newspapers electronically. Unlike a standard printed book or magazine, an eBook can contain thousands of different titles and publications that can be accessed with the touch of a few buttons. You may consider changing the battery if your Sony eBook battery does not hold a charge. Sony instructs users to send the unit to the Sony repair center for battery replacement, but you can change a Sony eBook battery yourself with an aftermarket battery and the use of a few tools.
Instructions
1. Clear your workspace. Work on a hard level surface while standing on a static-free surface. Turn the Sony eBook reader off. Turn the unit over so the screen is facing downward. Remove the screw using a Phillips laptop screwdriver.
2. Remove the right side bumper by inserting a thin kitchen knife between the joint. Pry the bumper free. Do not force the side bumper off. Forcing it off may break the plastic tabs.
3. Lift the SD card cover. Remove the two screws with a Phillips laptop screwdriver. Remove the left side bumper in the same fashion used to remove the right side bumper.
4. Remove the four screws from the exposed sides of the Sony eBook reader, using the Phillips laptop screwdriver. Remove the two screws on the bottom of the unit, near the charging port.
5. Turn the unit over. Pry the cover apart using your hands. Start at the bottom of the eBook reader and work your way up. Remove the cover completely by sliding it off the hinge at the top of the unit.
6. Locate the defective battery in the top left corner of the Sony eBook reader. Unplug the battery and remove the two screws on the battery housing. Extract the battery and recycle it.
7. Use a battery specifically designed to fit the Sony eBook reader. Insert the replacement battery. Tighten the two screws on the battery housing. Plug the battery in and replace the cover by first sliding the hinge at the top into the connector.
8. Replace all screws, following the removal instructions in reverse. Replace the side bumpers by gently pressing them into place. Do not force the side bumpers; avoid damaging the plastic tabs. Turn the unit on and test the replacement battery. You probably will need to fully charge the replacement battery before using it.
