Repair Small Cracks In Basement Walls

Repair cracks in a concrete foundation.

Though small cracks in the foundation of your basement walls are not a structural concern, they can be an eyesore. For the average homeowner, repairing the cracks in the walls is a very simple project that takes a few hours to perform. With a basic concrete mix, you can quickly fill cracks and blend the repair in with the existing concrete surface. Properly attend to these minor cracks and say goodbye to the unappealing surface. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove dirt and debris from the cracks by running a stiff wire brush over them.

2. Pour the concrete bonding liquid into a small bucket, then apply the bonding liquid to the cracks with a small paintbrush. Be sure to coat deep inside the crack as well as the sides.

3. Mix together a concrete patching compound as directed on the packaging, then scoop it into the cracks with a putty knife. The compound should have the consistency of peanut butter. Be sure to force the compound as far back into the cracks as it will go.

4. Smooth the compound level with the existing basement wall using the flat side of the putty knife or a steel trowel.

5. Wait about 15 minutes for the compound to dry, then wet a broom so that the bristles are damp to the touch. Gently drag the broom over the compound texture to make the repair less noticeable. The concrete compound typically dries within 48 hours of application.
