Trampolines are designed by manufacturers to withstand wear and tear, yet after three to seven years, these jumping platforms are often in need of some type of repair. Common repairs are related to the trampoline mat. Even though the mat is constructed of woven fibers of UV-resistant polypolpyrene, years of sun exposure can result in a weakening of the fibers, which can lead to holes or tears. To prevent further damage and possible injury, any holes or tears that occur need to be dealt with promptly. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
Duct Tape Repair
1. Locate and measure all existing holes or tears in the trampoline mat. If any holes are larger than one inch in diameter, or there are tears that are in excess of two inches, you may want to consider replacing the mat in order to have a safe jumping surface.
2. If the holes are less than one inch, and the tears are no longer than a couple of inches, use duct tape to patch the affected areas. Tear off a piece of duct tape that is approximately one inch larger than the damaged area, and apply it over the tear or hole. Press down on the duct tape with your fingers in order to help it properly adhere to the mat's surface.
3. Jump on the trampoline to check and see if the tape stays in place. If it does not, then you can try another repair method.
Patch Repair
4. Order a trampoline mat patch repair kit. TrampolineSales.com sells and recommends these kits for holes no larger than three inches.
5. Mark the holes or tears with small pieces of duct tape, in order to be able to find them once you remove the mat.
6. Remove the mat. This task is best accomplished with the help of at least one other person.
Pull one of the springs holding the mat toward you, and unfasten the spring from the mat. Leave the other end of the spring attached to the trampoline frame.
Repeat this process for every spring that is holding part of the mat, until the mat is free.
7. Take the mat and the repair kit to an upholstery repair shop, and request that the mat be repaired.
