Realizing the cost savings and resource savings that comes from energy efficiency, there have been a number of state and federal grants established to encourage Americans to invest in energy conservation and improvements; renewable sources of energy and other energy saving projects. There are a number of these energy grants that are applicable to residents of Orange County, Florida. Does this Spark an idea?
Orange County - Solar Hot Water Rebate Program
The Orange County Solar Hot Water Rebate Program was developed to encourage Orange County residents to install solar hot water systems, in both commercial and residential buildings. The grant reimburse recipients up to $200 for an approved system.
This program is administered by a partnership between Progress Energy, Orange County Environmental Protection Division and Orlando Utilities Commission. Residents must have an energy audit conducted (typically by their utility company) or must submit an Energy Audit Affidavit. A solar hot water incentive from the individual's utility provider must also be proven. A copy of the paid invoice for the system, as well as proof that the new system was installed and the date that it was installed must be provided, within six months of installation.
Applications for these funds are processed on a first come - first served basis, and are awarded until funds are depleted for the year. Backlogs of previous funding requests are kept and processed when the next year's funds become available.

OUC - Home Energy Efficiency Fix-Up Program
The Orlando Utilities Commission Home Energy Efficiency Fix-Up Program was designed specifically for low-income residents of Orlando, in Orange County, Florida. To qualify, Orlando residents must live in a single-family residence, have a family income lower than $35,000 and be in good standing with their utility company. Through this program, the Orlando Utilities Commission will pay up to 85 percent of the total improvement costs for energy savings projects, up to a maximum of $2,000. The remaining 15 percent may be paid by the resident directly or they may take advantage of the Orlando Utilities Commission's 12-month, no-interest financing option.
Possible projects include: window caulking, insulating attics, weather stripping, insulating hot water heaters, hot water piping and ductwork. To apply for this funding, residents must complete a Residential Energy Survey, prior to beginning improvements. This program has been in place since 1985 and since that time it has helped thousands of Orlando residents make energy improvements to their homes.

KUA - Residential Energy Efficiency Rebate Program
The Kissimmee Utility Authority Residential Energy Efficiency Rebate Program offers residents of Kissimmee, in Orange County, Florida, a variety of ways to receive awards for making improvements to improve the energy efficiency of their homes. One improvement that qualifies is duct leak repair. Residents who repair a leaking duct, in existing central air systems, can be reimbursed $75. The repair work and inspection has to be completed by a partner contractor of the Kissimmee Utility Authority. $75 can also be reimbursed by performing air conditioning maintenance, with an approved contractor. A $100 rebate is available to residents and small businesses who install new insulation. To qualify, this insulation has to be under or over an air conditioned space, with a rating of at least R-30 in attics and R-15 under raised flooring. In addition, vouchers are given to residents who purchase compact fluorescent lamp bulbs to replace incandescent bulbs.
