With a computer, a word program and some attractive graphics, you can make a professional-looking flier for your residential maintenance business at home. As the designer, you have total control over the information included in the flier, the layout of the text, the position of the graphics and the ink and paper quality your fliers are printed out on.
Instructions
1. Sketch one or two rough drafts of your flier on scratch paper. Lay out the text and draw boxes where you plan to put graphics to save the space.
2. List the business information you'll include on your flier. Write your company name. List the cleaning and home repair services you offer. Write your hours of operation. List prices and contact information. Include or think up a business catch phrase if you don't already have one.
3. Download business logos or other graphics you wish to put on your flier. Ask the marketing department of your business to email you the graphics. Only download and use graphics to which you own the rights.
4. Open a new text document on your computer. Click "File." Click "New Document."
5. Click "Insert" on the toolbar at the top of the page. Click "Text Box." A text box with perforated lines appears. Adjust the size of the text box by clicking and holding one of the sides and dragging it out or in. Click inside of the text box and type your text when the blinking cursor appears. Insert your business information from the rough draft you designed.
6. Click "Insert." Click "Image." Upload the graphics you saved to your computer. Resize the image by left clicking and dragging out the image border. Move the image to the desired place on the flier by clicking, holding and dragging the image.
7. Save the image by clicking "File" and selecting "Save As." Name the document and click "Save." Click "File," then "Print Preview" to see what your flier will look like when printed. Load printing paper into your printer. Click "File" and then select "Print." Start by printing one flier to make sure you like the look and feel. Adjust printer options if needed.
