If your car exhaust acts up, and you can't get to a mechanic, you can apply a temporary fix with a tin can. All you need is the can and a few common tools for a temporary repair that should hold until you can get your vehicle to a pro.
Instructions
1. Measure the diameter of the exhaust pipe with a tape measure.
2. Find a tin can with a diameter equal or close to the diameter of the pipe. A soda can works best, as it is easier to cut and mold. If choosing between a can that is too small and one that is too large, always go for bigger can. It will be easier to structure it to the pipe.
3. Using metal shears, cut the end from the soda can to create a tube. Be careful when cutting since both the blade and the freshly severed metal are sharp.
4. Use shears to make a lengthwise cut down the side of the can to form a sleeve. Put the sleeve around the damaged section of pipe. Using 2 automotive clamps that fit the exhaust, clamp both ends of the soda can to the pipe. Use a flat head screwdriver to tighten the clamps and seal the pipe.
