Remodel a Trailer House
Trailer homes are traditionally one of the least expensive ways to have a place to call your own. But that doesn't mean your trailer home can't be stylish and upscale. You can begin remodeling your trailer home by replacing the original walls and floors. Remember to base your decisions on whether or not the trailer is on a permanent foundation--materials like drywall or wood flooring can crack if the trailer is ever moved. Talk with local authorities to find out if any restrictions apply. If necessary, obtain a building permit. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Evaluate how much your trailer house is worth on the open market. Create a budget that will help you improve the look of the space without over-investing. Remodel those areas that are in the worst need of updating first. Consider upgrading the kitchen and living areas with drywall and high-quality wood trim. Install crown modeling over new wall materials for an upscale look.
2. Consider adding extra insulation on exterior walls and in ceiling areas during any type of remodeling. Added insulation will save on heating and cooling bills, and this can help defray costs of remodeling.
3. Sketch ways to upgrade the kitchen and living areas. Install new countertops, flooring and appliances in the kitchen. Build a wall unit to hold media materials or incorporate a small electric fireplace for ambiance in the living area. Expand a bedroom into a master suite by utilizing closet space or hallway space.
4. Upgrade bathrooms by installing good quality wall materials or drywall. Buy new sinks, vanities and bath-shower combinations if your budget permits. Consider investing in a large garden tub for a master bathroom if you have room. Install new tile or wood flooring to give the bath area an upscale look.
5. Evaluate the exterior and the window placements. Install larger windows to open up a small living space and provide more light. Hire a master carpenter to assist in removing interior paneling and exterior sheathing to build framework for new windows.
