Among those most likely to be affected by health care costs and the difficulty of getting medical expenses covered are the elderly, whose propensity to sickness at an advanced age makes them more likely to need access to health care. Fortunately, for those elderly looking to received affordable health care, there are grants in place to help alleviate this financial burden.
Commonwealth Fund
This fund bills itself as "working toward a high performance health system," and has in place select plans for elderly Americans looking to received assistance for health care-related issues. The Quality of Care for Frail Elders grant aims to help shift American nursing homes and other long-term-care options into more of a "resident first" approach. This fund, in improving nursing homes and related facilities, hopes to provide better health care to the elderly. The Commonwealth Fund also has funds and grants devoted to helping the elderly received affordable health care, even those who do not reside in nursing homes and related facilities.
Medicare Part D Program
The American Kidney Fund offers a grant that gives dialysis patients that qualify access to funds to help cover prescriptions as specified under Medicare Part D. Those patients qualifying for the grant receive help with their deductibles, co-pays and any coverage gap costs pertaining directly to bone care medications. Those eligible may receive up to $2,000 a year, and the grants are offered in the form of pharmacy card.
The Older Americans Act
Passed in 1965, this federal program also created the Administration of Aging to help allot grants to elderly for health care. These days, the Act is primarily devoted to helping offer funds to assist in social and nutrition services for the elderly and their caretakers. It does so by offering money through a national group of nearly 60 state agencies, almost 20,000 service providers, and more than 200 tribal groups. The Act even offers community service employment for impoverished elderly Americans.
