Tip A Repairman

Repairmen should be tipped according to the level of service.

Tipping service providers and repair people is a well-documented tradition. The type and frequency of tip depends on the service provided. The postman or the paper delivery person may only receive an annual tip as they provide regular services throughout the year. An auto mechanic or appliance repair person is tipped at the time of service. These tips vary widely in amount according to the level of service provided and the budget of the consumer.

Instructions

1. Review the service provided by the repairman. Did he arrive on time? Did he clean up after himself. Was he polite and helpful? Did hy perform any extra service not previously agreed to?

2. Review the bill presented by the repairman. If the bill is more than $150 a tip of 10 percent or 15 percent may not be realistic. A flat rate of $15 to $30 is sufficient when a tip is given. According to Peggy Post on the Good Housekeeping website, a repairman does not need to be tipped at all unless service is exceptional.

3. Give the tip in cash, not by check or by adding it onto a credit card.
