Get Rid Of Fire Odor

The smell of smoke from a fire can linger in clothes, furniture and other items throughout your house for a long time. Luckily, there are steps you can take to get rid of the smell. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Removing the Smell From the House

1. Open windows and doors to get fresh air circulating throughout the house. The fresh air will provide immediate relief from the smell. You can use fans to help circulate the air.

2. Wash any fabric on furniture or elsewhere that you can, such as couch covers, small pillows, curtains, etc.

3. Spray products such as Febreze throughout the house. Febreze helps neutralize the smell. It can be sprayed on almost everything, including furniture.

4. Clean your carpet with a carpet-cleaning machine, which you can rent from appliance stores. The smoke and smell of fire absorbs into your carpet. The machine's suction will make a majority of the smell will go away.

5. Thoroughly clean the area where the fire started. This is where there was the most smoke, and therefore where most of the smell comes from.

Remove Smell From Clothes

6. Wash all clothes that smell like smoke together and with no unaffected garments.

7. Use nonbuilt liquid detergent or a low-phosphate powder detergent, and liquid chlorine bleach. This works well on most cotton or polyester clothes.

8. Some clothing may require more than just a typical wash. Take clothes that still smell like smoke to the dry cleaners.
