Attach Handrail Parts Together

Handrails are manufactured in many styles and different types of materials. They can be made of metal, plastic or wood. When installing handrails, one must consider methods for fastening and joining the handrail to obtain a safe, yet functional railing system. Does this Spark an idea?


Instructions


1. Fit the railing pieces together by laying them out in the area where they are to be installed.


2. Mark the center of the end of the straight piece by measuring the thickness and width of it.


3. Use the 1/4-inch drill bit to drill a hole 2-inches deep in the end of the straight rail.


4. Insert the coarse threaded end of the rail bolt in the hole.


5. Install the rail bolt nut on the fine thread end of the rail bolt.


6. Tighten the rail bolt with the Versa Tool until the bolt protrudes from the end of the rail 1-inch.


7. Remove the rail bolt nut.


8. Apply wood glue to the end of the curved and straight pieces.


9. Place the curved end rail piece over the bolt and align the surfaces of the hand rail until flush.


10. Install the washer and nut on the bolt by inserting them into the hole in the bottom of the curved piece.


11. Tighten the nut with the Versa Tool.


12. Sand the surface of the handrail joint until smooth with the 150-grit sandpaper.
