Remove A Water Pump In A 1995 Ford Aerostar

The water pump in your 1995 Ford Aerostar circulates water through the engine, keeping it flowing between the radiator and the engine. When the water pump goes out, the water doesn't flow through the engine, and the engine doesn't get properly cooled down. This could lead to an overheating condition, which could damage the engine. Fixing the problem involves replacing the water pump, which requires a few special Ford tools that can be purchased at your local Ford dealership or your local auto parts store.

Instructions

1. Wait for the engine to cool down for several hours so you do not burn yourself. Lift up the front of the Aerostar using the jack and put it on a pair of jack stands so the front wheels are off the ground. Place a drain pan underneath the radiator on the front of the Aerostar. Open up the white petcock located at the bottom of the radiator by hand. Empty the radiator.

2. Remove the hose clamps from the lower radiator hose to the water pump using a flat head screwdriver. Pull the hose off of the water pump. Do the same for the heater return hose on the pump as well.

3. Place the fan clutch pulley holder on the fan clutch pulley then use the fan clutch nut removal tool on the fan clutch nut. Remove the nut on the fan clutch then remove the fan. Loosen the bolts on the alternator then pivot it in towards the middle of the engine. Slide the belt off of the alternator pulley then off of the water pump.

4. Remove the water pump pulley from the engine using a 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Unbolt the water pump from the engine using the ratchet then pull it out of the engine compartment.
