Repair A Maytag Dryer Belt

Maytag automatic clothes dryers come in both gas and electric formats. Each individual model features its own design and array of features but every Maytag dryer has a motor that connects to a set of pulleys with a belt. The other end of the belt fits around the drum. A broken drum prevents the dryer from tumbling during a cycle. You replace the broken belt with a new one to repair the dryer. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Slide the putty knife under the top panel in the front of the dryer. Move the knife back and forth to locate the internal clips on each side. Press the blade of the putty knife into each clip to unlock it.

2. Lift the top panel up until it comes to a stop on its rear hinges.

3. Remove the screws securing the top of the front panel to the Maytag dryer cabinet. Unplug the electrical connector leading to the front panel. Set the front panel aside.

4. Pull the idler pulley toward you to relieve belt tension. Slide the old belt off the pulleys and drum.

5. Loop the new belt around the drum. Position the other end around both pulleys.

6. Reposition the front panel. Plug the electrical connector into its socket. Replace the screws on the top of the panel.

7. Lower the top panel down onto the dryer cabinet.
