Disable System Restore In Safe Mode

Disable System Restore in Safe Mode

Windows System Restore allows users to revert their operating system settings to a stable state in the event that any system files begin to malfunction. Your operating system inspects any changes from new software and hardware installations, to more delicate system files modifications such as accidental deletions. However, if you wish to disable System Restore in Safe Mode, doing so requires a few steps, depending on your operating system of choice.

Instructions

Disable From Windows XP

1. Start your computer and press "F8" before your operating system is beginning to load. This will launch the Windows Advanced Options Menu. The "F8" key must be pressed prior to the loading of your operating system, also known as the POST--Power-on Self Test--procedure. Select "Safe Mode" by pressing "Enter."

2. Click "Start" and select "Control Panel." Choose "System" and select the "System Restore" tab.

3. Uncheck the box that states "Turn off System Restore" to disable it. Alternatively, click the one stating "Turn off System Restore on All Drives" if such option is enabled for more than one hard disk on your computer.

4. Click "OK," and then choose "Yes" in the following message you receive, which states that all existing restore points will be deleted should you decide to proceed with your actions. Exit from the system properties window when finished.
