Removing Scratches From A Stainless Steel Fridge

The Professionals

There are several options on remove scratches from a stainless steel refrigerator. The most expensive of these, of course, is to call a professional. Finding one however might be harder than paying the bill that would be charged for such a service. Consider the other option--that of removing the scratches yourself.

Home Remedy

The biggest no-no you can do is use a coarse sponge to clean a stainless steel fridge. That being said, if you have already scratched your appliance because of this, then there is nothing left to do but try to remove the scratches. There are several products on the market that are said to remove marks from stainless steel appliances, but you might try a simple odorless cooking oil and Scotchbrite pads before paying for more expensive products. Use the gray-colored one first and then go over the entire area again with the finer maroon one to create the finished look. Just apply the oil to the pad and rub down the entire section that is scratched, making sure to follow the grain of the steel. Once done, you can remove the greasy residue with vinegar. If you have a shiny finish to your appliance, you should avoid using Scotchbrite pads or any other coarse material. It will only take away the shine, and that would only make things worse.

Products

If that doesn't work or you have a shiny finish, there are products that can be purchased. A vehicle 3-M liquid compound called Perfect-It can remove scratches if you are willing to put in the labor. Always rub with the grain and use a soft cloth if there is a shine to the fridge. Copper and stainless cleaning solution created for pots and pans can also do the trick. There is one made called Revere Copper and Stainless Steel Cleaner. It is a paste that comes in a jar. Remember not to follow the application directions completely, however. The directions say to apply in a circular motion. It is best not to do that, but to apply it to the fridge following the grain of the steel. When done, use vinegar to remove the residue and then wash off with soap and water to remove the vinegar.
