Replace The Burner On A Glass Top Stove

Glass top stove burners are easy to replace.

Glass top stoves are a popular choice for many homeowners because the flat surface is easy to keep clean. Additionally, the burner sockets aren't exposed to liquids and food as they are on other electric ranges, so glass top stoves are less susceptible to shorts from liquid exposure. Even though they are protected, the burners in glass top stoves still require replacement after years of use. The replacement procedure is the same as with any electric stove; the most difficult part of the process is reaching the burners. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Unplug the glass top stove to prevent electrical shocks or burns. If the stove is wired into the home's electrical system, turn off the breaker for the stove at the breaker box.

2. Open the oven door and look for metal brackets with one or two screws on the underside of the stove top. Look in the front of the stove where the top of the oven door normally sits. There should be one bracket on each side of the stove top. Remove the screws with a screwdriver to disconnect the stove top from the frame of the oven.

3. Grasp the stove top and lift up as you would with the hood of a vehicle to reveal the burners. The stove top should lock into place when fully opened or have a hinged rod to prop up the stove top.

4. Locate the connection point on the faulty burner. Two metal prongs should plug into the connection point. Grab the burner and pull it in the opposite direction of the connection point like you would pull an electrical cord out of a wall socket.

5. Plug the new burner into the empty slot. The metal prongs should secure into place with minimal effort. Close the stove top and screw the screws back into the brackets. Plug the stove back in or throw the breaker and test the new burner.
