Labor Charges To Do Home Repair

Labor charges for home repair vary depending on a variety of factors.

Home repairs can range from simple fixes, such as replacing a door knob, to more complex projects, such as renovating an entire kitchen. As such, the labor charges can vary drastically, depending on what part of the world you live in, the experience of the contractor and the complexity of the renovation. When you wish to renovate your home, there are a number of things to look at when calculating the labor charges for home repair. Does this Spark an idea?

Experience of the Contractor

The experience of a contractor will change the rate of labor charges. A relatively new contractor may only charge $15 per hour, while a veteran of the field can often charge more than $75 per hour. Your budget will dictate the actual labor numbers you feel comfortable with, but as a general rule, the higher the level of experience, the better the quality of work---and thus the higher the accompanying rates.

Complexity of the Project

The type of project a contractor is working on can change the labor charges. For example, replacing a piece of baseboard is a relatively simple task that any handyman can accomplish, which means the rates for such a task will be relatively low. More complex jobs, such as gutting a kitchen and completely stripping it down to the bare bones, will require far more in terms of labor costs. Expect to pay more the higher the difficulty level of the job.

License Requirements

While coming in to fix a broken pipe is a relatively simple task that any general handyman can accomplish, there are some jobs that require licensing. Replacing an HVAC unit (heating and air conditioning unit and/or accompanying vents, and beyond) is a complex task that requires very specific licensing. Hiring a properly licensed repairman will have an accompanying price tag that varies depending on the type of repair in question.

Warranty Charges

While most manufacturer warranties come included with any type of product or materials used in your home, additional warranties are based upon the contractor. These warranties can change the overall labor bid for your project, depending on the length of the warranty added on. The longer the warranty, the more money you can expect to pay.
