A CD
There are many solutions out there for repairing scratched CDs, including fancy machines and special CD creams that claim to buff out even the toughest of scratches. However, you can get the same results with common household items.
Toothpaste
For the most superficial scratches, toothpaste is a great option. Place a small amount of toothpaste on the scratch and rub it in gently using a soft cloth. Then wash the extra paste from the surface of the disc. You cannot use gel toothpaste, as it doesn't have the correct texture to mend scratches. In this case, the toothpaste must really be paste.
Brasso
The chemical cleaner Brasso is a good substance to use for moderate CD scratches. Pour a small amount of the liquid solution onto the entire CD and use a soft cloth to rub it into the CD scratches. The Brasso may cause your CD to shine differently, and any discolorations that occur will be permanent. However, this should not interfere with playback.
Car Wax
Car wax should only be used in the case of extreme scratches, as it can ruin your CD if it is applied improperly. The best way to use car wax on your scratched CD is to dip the toothpick in the car wax and scoop some out, then gently apply it to the CD's scratch. Repeat the process until you have filled the scratch completely, then wipe the excess wax off with a rag. Wait 30 to 45 minutes for the wax to dry inside the scratch before playing the CD.
