Stucco comes in a variety of colors and textures.
In addition to aesthetic appeal, stucco homes have a variety of benefits including a plethora of texture options, long-term value and heat resistance. To determine if stucco is the right choice for you, you'll first want to estimate how much stucco you need to cover your home and then to estimate how much it will cost. Stucco estimates can vary based upon location, contractor and style but should typically not go much lower than $6 per square foot and not much higher than $12 per square foot. (See References 1 and 2) Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Determine the square footage of your home if you plan to stucco the entire house. If you are a home owner, you should already have the square footage from when you purchased the house. (See References 1 and 4)
2. Determine the square footage of the portion of the house you want to have stuccoed if you do not want the entire house to be stuccoed. For instance, some home owners only want to stucco the cinder block portion of their home that is often on the exterior of basements.
3. To determine the square footage, first measure the length and height of all of the walls you would like to have stuccoed. Multiply the length by the height. Measure triangular areas by multiplying the length of the base of the triangle and the height of the triangle and dividing that number by two. Add the number you got for the first area to the number you got for the triangle to get the total square footage. (See Reference 4)
4. Measure the square footage of all of the windows on your home or in the area where you plan to stucco. Then, measure the square footage of all of the doors on your home or in the area where you plan to stucco. Subtract both the square footage of all of the windows and the square footage of all of the doors from the number you got in Step 3. (See References 4)
5. Multiply your final number by 6 to get a low estimate of stucco costs and labor. Then, multiply your final number by 12 to get a high estimate of stucco costs and labor. This is because stucco jobs typically average between $6 and $12 per square foot but can vary based upon stucco type, contractor and location. (See References 1 and 4)
6. Research contractors in your area now that you have an estimate of what a stucco job should cost you. Also, check the Better Business Bureau to make sure the contractors do not have any complaints. (See References 1)
7. Make an appointment with a contractor to receive an exact estimate (See References 1 and 4), and compare your own estimate with the contractor's to determine if the contractor's estimate is reasonable.
