Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) trailers are sold by the government to people who desire to use them as a place to live. FEMA trailers are a form of manufactured housing which have been used to provide a temporary place to live for people affected by hurricanes and other natural disasters. Living in these trailers on a temporary basis gives displaced residents a chance to fix their homes or find a new place to reside permanently. This kind of trailer can also be found in areas ravaged by floods, and damaging storm surges. Living in these trailers is often seen as a step in the right direction by many residents when compared to living in a damaged home, or living in the overcrowed house of a friend or family member. The trailers often require repair, and potential residents can attempt to determine what kind of condition the properties are in before they acquire the units. Instructions
1. Register at the website of the General Services Administration (see References). Know that you will need to fill out the required information which will include choosing a unique user name, password, company or personal name, and give an answer to a question which will help you to recall your password, if it is lost for some reason. Remember your payment information is required, but will not be used unless you actually purchase a trailer, or other government item.
2. Assess the condition of the FEMA property. If you know estimate repairs, you can inspect the trailer on your own, or have a handyperson look at the trailer, if you are not able to assess the possible damages. Inspections are held Mondays through Fridays, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Water damage, missing appliances, worn tires, and broken windows are some of the main items to look for during the inspection. 3. Understand the terms of the transaction. Understand that the person or entity who buys the FEMA trailer is responsible for paying the price associated with moving it from one location to another place. All buyers must also complete a form which states that the property will not be sold to another party at a later date as a residence.
4. Know the rules of the process. If you are a state employee, you get to choose before other bidders have made their selections. FEMA trailers which have not been sold at that point will be available to other parties who wish to place their bids.
