Grants For Assisted Living Facilities

Assisted living facilities help elderly individuals with daily living activities.

Federal programs are available to both individuals and state or local governmental agencies to create assisted living programs, make repairs to existing facilities or even convert housing units into assisted living facilities. The goal of these programs is to increase the number of facilities that are available to the elderly who can live on their own, but still need some assistance with daily living activities.

ALCP

The Assisted-living Conversion Program provides grants to private, nonprofit owners of multi-unit homes. The goal of this program is to convert some of the available space in these units into assisted living facilities for the elderly. Before the organization can apply for the grant, they must be licensed and regulated by the state where they operate. Further, the facility must have enough room to accommodate living spaces, a kitchen, a recreation area and office spaces. Funds may be used for general conversion purposes and for the creation of common or office spaces. Grant amounts will vary on need.

Emergency Capital Repair Grants

The Emergency Capital Repair Grants for Multifamily Housing Projects Designated for Occupancy is administered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The goal of this grant is to provide funds to private, nonprofit owners that need to make emergency repairs to units occupied by the elderly. These funds can only be used for issues that pose an imminent threat to the person living within the unit. Applicants can only request up to $500,000, and these funds must solely be used to address the living issue. Since these are emergency funds grants, applicants should receive an answer from their local HUD office within 15 days.
