A mobile home on two acres.
Often people look at mobile homes, especially older mobile homes, and shake their heads at how out-dated and frail they seem. While these homes may be older and they may need some work they can often be easily fixed up and are reasonably priced for those with incomes that cannot afford more. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Inspect the mobile home and make a list of the problems you find. In older mobile homes you may have to replace floors or walls as well as appliances or windows. It is best to know what is going to be a problem now and what may become a problem in the future.
2. Mobile home walls are often what make the home look the least like a site-built home. If the mobile home walls have wallboard with stripping on them then changing this look can be a great help. Remove the stripping and fill in with plaster. Once the plaster has been smoothed and dried you can then paint over the entire wall. You may have to paint on several layers to completely cover the wallboard.
3. Covering paneled walls is done much the same way as wallboard. You can plaster the lines in the paneling to make a smooth surface or leave them for a neat texture, then paint the wall. If the paneling is very dark you may have to paint a couple of layers. With the paneling or the wallboard, adding baseboards and crown molding to the walls gives the appearance you are in a site built home.
4. Lay new flooring in your mobile home. Getting rid of the outdated linoleum can brighten up a kitchen while making it feel newer and replacing the carpet with new carpet or laminate can be a big update.
5. Replace the kitchen and bathroom cabinets if possible but if you cannot afford it then paint the cabinets with a fresh coat. After the cabinets have been painted replace the cabinet knobs with a more updated version. Even if you cannot afford to replace the knobs you can often paint them as well.
6. Replacing kitchen and bathroom faucets is also an inexpensive way to quickly modernize a room. If the sinks and tub are chipped or faded then you may want to replace them with newer sets.
