Wireless doorbells look just like regular bells but are much simpler to install.
If your old wired doorbell is in disrepair, has an annoying or undesirable chime, or the mounting simply needs to be updated, consider installing a wireless doorbell in its place. Some models are programmable and offer multiple music or chime noise options. You can install the button or buttons at any exterior door, and the receiver box can be placed on any convenient indoor outlet. Additional units can also be installed in different areas of your home so that you can hear the bell from any room. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Turn off the power that runs to the doorbell, even if the doorbell isn't working.
2. Unscrew the face plate covering the old doorbell button, or use a flat-head screwdriver to pry the cover off the mounting surface.
3. Cut the wires and cover them with wire caps or electrical tape to prevent electrical shock in the event that the wires become exposed in the future. Tuck the wires into the hole until they no longer protrude from the wall.
4. Insert an appropriate battery into the back of the doorbell button. Peel the paper backing from the adhesive strip included with your wireless doorbell, and apply it to the back of the button. Peel the paper backing from the other side of the strip, and press the button into place directly over the spot where the old button was located.
5. Screw the included screws through the holes on each side of the button and into the mounting surface.
6. Plug the receiver into any indoor outlet. Flip open the cover, and choose your favorite doorbell chime.
7. Unscrew or pry the old doorbell chime from the wall, if applicable. Cap or tape the wires, and push them back into the wall. Patch the wall in a appropriate manner depending on what type of surface to which the chime was mounted. Leave the old chime connected if it is located in a closet or stairwell or if you don't feel like taking the time to remove it.
