Troubleshoot A Frozen Screen In A Kindle

E-ink is so efficient the Kindle 3 can run for a month on a single charge.

The Kindle is an electronic e-book reader designed and manufactured by Amazon. The device uses a black and white e-ink screen, which provides an efficient and high-resolution digital display. E-ink only uses battery power when changing the contents of the screen, but does not require power to continue displaying the previous image. Because of this, a Kindle can often appear to be frozen on a particular screen when in fact its battery has gone flat. Testing to see if the battery is flat or if there is a screen problem can be determined quickly and easily.

Instructions

1. Plug the Kindle into its battery charger and leave it charging for at least five minutes. The Kindle's display remains active even if the battery is flat, giving the impression there is power available when this isn't necessarily the case.

2. Turn the Kindle on by sliding the power switch to the right. The power light will turn green and the display will reset if the Kindle is now active.

3. Hold the Kindle's power switch in the "ON" position for 15 seconds to perform a hard reset if charging does not appear to resolve the frozen screen. Wait for the Kindle to cycle through its reset and rebooting procedures.

4. Contact Amazon customer support through the "Manage Your Kindle" page on Amazon's website if a hard reset did not resolve the screen issue. In your contact message, explain that charging and hard reset procedures have already been attempted.
